United Way hosts 6th annual adult prom

VALDOSTA — Pirates, clowns and a T-rex were just a few of the costumed guests at the masquerade-themed adult prom at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center Saturday.

Kimberly Cannon | The Valdosta Daily Times The Sixth Annual Greater Valdosta United Way Adult Prom was held Saturday at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center. 

The Sixth Annual Greater Valdosta United Way Adult Prom raised funds for around 44 programs, within United Way agencies such as LAMP, the Boys Girls Club, Jacob’s Ladder, YMCA, Salvation Army and more. 

The United Way prom court included Danny Knight, Royce Thomas, Nick “Big Nick” Harden, Jarrod Brogdan, Richard J. Welch, Rachel Thrasher-Noles, Meghan Barwick, Terri Hundley, Whitney Sharpe and Devan Martin.

Barwick won prom queen and Knight won prom king winner, who was among a Jurassic Park costume group that included the winner of one of the costume prizes, Rex Dorsey, who dressed as a T-rex.

“Thank you all so much for supporting United Way,” Knight said. 

Guests at the prom shared Knight’s appreciation for United Way. 

Stephanie Wallace and her husband, Mike Wallace, attended the prom not just for a good time. 

“We love the United Way,” Stephanie said.

Stephanie said she and her husband have attended the previous adult proms as well, and this year, they decided to come out and dress up, as well as invite another couple to attend with them.

The prom also featured a silent auction. Bid items included paintings, rugs, gift baskets, teeth-whitening services and more. 

Guests were also able to enter into a drawing for $10,000 with the purchase of a $100 raffle ticket.

The $10,000 winner was Bianca Thomas. When receiving the check, Thomas took the opportunity to recommend her husband, Dr. Eric Thomas, for anyone’s podiatry needs.
